SWING TIP

PURTZER GOLF ACADEMY SWING
TIP - balance through swing
July/August 2004
The August Tip is on good balance for a powerful swing.
There is one thing almost all great players have and that
is good balance! In fact, there is only one GREAT player
that I can think of in the last 10 years or so who did not
have great balance-Greg Norman. Greg widened his stance
and worked hard to get better extension in his swing, especially
his backswing and became the # 1 player in the world!
A great way to achieve good balance in a powerful way is
to emulate the finish of the top professionals like Ernie
Els, Tiger Woods and Tom Purtzer.
Take a good look at the pictures of their swings. Pay close
attention to their positions at impact, just after impact
and into their full finish position.
Get in front of a full length mirror or patio window and
try to copy each position as closely as you can. Hold each
position for a minute or so. Then from the position just
after impact (where the arms are extended -a foot or so
past impact) hole that position for a moment and then swing
into the finish position using only your shoulders (do not
flip the club into the air with your hands).
As always, I hope this tip will help you play better golf.
See a PGA professional to make sure you are working on the
right things to get the most out of your game, and be sure
to take advantage of the tools on AspiringGolfer.com in
conjunction with this tip. Go to the range with this tip,
make careful notes to yourself about the things you feel
when doing this and then store them in your AspiringGolfer.com
lessons learned log.
Swing smooth and hit it long and straight!
